I recently took Chase to the movie theater for his first movie. Overall, he did a great job, especially considering that he’s only two years old. I learned a few things and I thought I’d share them with you. Here are some tips that you may find helpful for when you take your child to their first movie.
1. Arrive late. Yes, you heard me correctly! Don’t go into the theater until after the previews have ended. If you want to make it easy, just ask the theater how long the previews last. They should be able to tell you. Little ones can only sit for so long and skipping the previews is a good way to cut some time off.
2. Try to sit on the end of the aisle if [...]
I turned in my 50-hour workweek as a nurse practitioner when my first child was born in 2014. I now have a 24/7 job as a stay-at-home mom to two amazing kids who keep me extremely busy. I started my blog as a way for me to write about family adventures and motherhood. It hit me that those of you who read my blog may not know my background and or how I made the decision to become a stay-at-home mom. I know that this can be a controversial topic depending on who you talk to, so I thought I’d share my own journey into motherhood with you!
Even back when I spent my days catching lizards and building forts in my backyard I knew that I wanted to pursue a career in medicine [...]
When my first baby turned one I was that mom who had planned the party for months and had a secret Pinterest board full of ideas. I’m not kidding, I literally spent hours pinning decorations, cakes, and décor. My car was on autopilot as I drove to Michael’s and Hobby Lobby in the weeks leading up to the big event. Amazon Prime was my best friend and UPS was delivering things for the party on an almost daily basis.
I had a lot of fun and in the process I learned that I was craftier than I had given myself credit for. My parents had come to visit, and I’ll never forget my mom and I staying up until 3 am the night before the party making sure that we had everything [...]
Every now and then I hope to highlight nonprofit organizations that I think you may be interested in learning more about. My husband and I enjoy volunteering and feel that it’s a great way to give back to those who are in need. We hope to instill this trait in our kids at a young age so that they grow up with a servant’s heart. I’d love for you to join me in supporting the causes that are near and dear to my heart.
The first organization I’ve chosen to introduce you to is Quilts Made with Love. This project is close to my heart as it honors my sweet friend and coworker, Nicole Bermingham. Nicole developed a postpartum infection and passed away only days after giving birth to [...]
In August 2012 we made the big move from Minneapolis to the suburbs. Josh and I knew we wanted to start a family at some point and the home we had at the time was just not conducive for family life, with the master bedroom upstairs, away from the two small bedrooms on the first floor. I loved living in the city, so it took a lot of convincing from Josh to get me to consider a home in Chanhassen!
I really enjoyed decorating the rooms in our new home and spent a decent amount of time finding wall art that best fit my style without breaking the bank. I pretty much had everything figured out within a few months. That is, everything but my entryway hall. This hall/foyer begins at [...]
As I was working on my computer late last night I was shocked to see a headline about a toddler who had just been snatched from the edge of the Seven Seas Lagoon at Disney’s Grand Floridian Resort and Spa. I immediately wondered how could this happen at the Happiest Place on Earth? Why can’t Orlando seem to catch a break this week? As the mom of a two-year old boy, this news story hit close to home, and I immediately felt horrified and heartbroken.
This morning, as much of the world likely was waking up to this awful news, I couldn’t help but notice just how uncaring and callous people are. I read a number of news articles on Facebook and many of the comments that have been [...]
