Despite being twins, my babies are remarkably different little humans. I am reminded every single day as to their uniqueness. This was a lesson I had to learn at first, to not compare them. My son is a sponge, he is constantly absorbing and feeding off of his surroundings. My daughter less so. She currently goes through her days happily singing to herself and her play frogs. Already I can tell her imagination is a deep and colorful one. As she grows I will continue to make a point to be invited into the beautiful world inside that mind, to make certain she always feels safe to include me, and never shuts me out. Because who knows how deeply things are affecting her, perhaps [...]
Whew! Did that title get your attention? Well, I’m not an internet troll or one of those people that approaches nursing mothers just to say ‘eww gross.’ I even sympathize with that lady whose kid climbed in the monkey exhibit, like don’t get me started.
There’s been a lot of talk lately about mom shaming. Innocent phrases like ‘Breast is Best’ have become stigmatized by trolls who make it their life’s duty to shame moms who choose formula. And I mean guys that’s one of many examples. This article is not for those meanies who make it their goal in life to hate on other moms.
I have nothing left in me but [...]
So this is a topic that everyone hears and yet one that we all try to avoid. But why? Are we afraid of something? Are we subconsciously thinking someone will think less of us? Are we just really not that concerned about it and hope that one day it takes care of itself? I don’t know about you, but the clutter in my house is something that I’ve been focused on and really trying to work at. Stress and clutter do go together! Think about it, you’re stressed because the kids’ rooms are full of toys and are always messy, the kitchen always has way too many dishes to even put away, there are too many towels that you don’t know what to do with, and the [...]
When my first baby turned one I was that mom who had planned the party for months and had a secret Pinterest board full of ideas. I’m not kidding, I literally spent hours pinning decorations, cakes, and décor. My car was on autopilot as I drove to Michael’s and Hobby Lobby in the weeks leading up to the big event. Amazon Prime was my best friend and UPS was delivering things for the party on an almost daily basis.
I had a lot of fun and in the process I learned that I was craftier than I had given myself credit for. My parents had come to visit, and I’ll never forget my mom and I staying up until 3 am the night before the party making sure that we had everything [...]
There was a period of about six months after I had my son—my first child—that I nursed him multiple times each night. Every time I woke up to nurse, whether he was in my room or his, I had my iPhone in my hand.
It wasn’t that I wasn’t soaking up every sweet little snuggle and stare, because I was. Well, I was trying. But it was because, to put it simply, in those early days—even surrounded by all the love and craziness of new parenthood—I still felt so alone.
Every night, I would heave my lumpy Mom Bod across the finish line, getting my son down for his first two-hour interval of sleep, with such trepidation, because I knew my time was short. It was the feeling [...]
Seasons of life…for some reason I keep hearing this phrase and also find myself giving this advice to friends. But yet this is so true! We are all in a season of our lives and everyone’s season will look different. For instance, your season of life may be starting a new job, finishing your senior year in college, moving to a new city or state, having a newborn, starting a new life being married, or even just finding yourself in a complete rut. Whatever your season is just know that it’s just that, a season…it won’t last forever and it will change just as seasons do.
I found myself really pondering this thought as we did some furniture [...]
