If you’re a mother of a high needs baby, I want you to know you’re not alone. I completely understand you. It feels like a dark and lonely time, but there are people, who get it. I get it! And, in some ways, it gets better!
Dear Mama Struggling with Her High Needs Baby,
I’m guilty of having watched from a distance as you tried, and failed, to console your baby. Though I tried not to stare, I failed at times. I’m pretty sure I saw you glimpse my way as I quickly tried to turn away. I tried to pretend as though I didn’t notice what you were dealing with. At the time, I thought what you needed was to feel as though no one [...]
I let my toddlers watch Cops awhile back. We were out of town, and for whatever reason our cable wasn’t working. We had a long day, I was tired, the baby was tired, and I couldn’t wrangle my wild stallions any longer. I needed some TV-time to get us to BED time. “Bad Boys, Bad Boys….Watcha gonna do…” that song is still one they love. It was all that was on that was remotely something they would watch. Luckily they didn’t really understand what was happening, they were just mesmerized by the police lights, sirens, and take downs. I was desperate. Having multiple little ones is hard work. They all wine and cry at different times, so it feels like no one is happy ever. [...]
I cried today. Those stinging tears of joy when the love in your heart is spilling out to the point your body can no longer physically contain it. It was just one of those simple everyday moments. I was helping my girls eat some lunch and the bigger Little Miss asked me to sing her a song and rock her. We found that song on YouTube and listened to it a number of times on full volume, singing together and rocking away in a kitchen chair. The Smaller Little Miss added in her coos and squeals while grabbing for more bites of her meal.
I looked up and there was (old) yogurt on the ceiling. I have no idea how exactly one of my children flung it that well, but it’s there and [...]
WHAT IS POSSIBLE?
There are a lot of things that are not possible now that I am a mom. However, on the other hand, there are a few things that are now possible because I have become a mom.
Most of those things involve being able to accomplish tasks moderately well with one hand. I am excellent at cooking with one hand. I am excellent at dressing a child with one hand. Also on the list is drinking cold tea, eating left overs and closing doors with my elbows. I excel at those three things, too.
There are however a lot more things that I am either not good at or have become downright impossible now that I am a mom. Here is the list. It is a list of things I [...]
I’m a frugal person by nature.
I come by it honestly; it’s in the genes as they say.
I like to save my money, and I love a good sale. Making large purchases can be difficult for me.
When I found out I was pregnant, my thoughts turned to my wardrobe. Clearly, my normal wardrobe would not carry me through my pregnancy. I needed to have clothes that would accommodate my growing body.
Initially, my view on maternity clothes was this:
“I don’t want to spend much money on maternity clothes because I’ll only be wearing them for a short time.”
Sound familiar? It’s a common viewpoint when considering maternity clothes.
It’s true – you only wear [...]
I cannot be the only mom who goes for style and “chicness” when shopping for baby and kids’ products. I may be slightly ridiculous, but still, I know I’m not the only one! Since I have a little girl, I have always wanted everything to be as pink and girly as possible. If we have a boy someday, well we’ll be buying a lot of new baby stuff I suppose. So with that being said, when I decided I needed a jogger, my mission was to find one that wasn’t $200 or more, but was cute, girly and good quality. I searched in a few different places, and finally found the InStep Safari Swivel Wheel Jogger in the color wine on Amazon.
I loved the burgundy [...]
