My kids eat McDonald’s. They clamor for it. Every time we pass those incandescent golden arches I hear 4-year-old Avery sing from the backseat, “Fries, Mommy?” and 9-year-old Camden start in with the “facts”, “Mommy, did you know that Happy Meals come with water and apple slices? Isn’t that such a healthy choice?”
As my own mouth begins to salivate thinking about the warm, salty goodness that are McDonald’s fries, I have a mini-struggle in my mind between Ease and Guilt. Ease makes me glance at the clock. Almost 5 pm. By the time we get home, I justify to myself, it will be 5:30 and then making dinner will take another half hour at least since I didn’t think to thaw [...]
My favorite budget Valentine’s day gift idea is actually not just one gift. It’s 14. This gift idea is called 14 Days of Valentine’s Day. 14 days of Valentine’s is an excellent way to give your loved ones something special without blowing your budget. The gifts are incredibly small, but when placed with a special note and given over the course of 14 days, it becomes extraordinary.
The first time I heard of 14 days of Valentine’s was a few years ago when I wanted to give my husband something extra special for Valentine’s Day, but we didn’t have any extra cash. I saw this post on Pinterest titled 14 Days of Valentine’s by Mommy by Day Crafter by Night [...]
When my first baby turned one I was that mom who had planned the party for months and had a secret Pinterest board full of ideas. I’m not kidding, I literally spent hours pinning decorations, cakes, and décor. My car was on autopilot as I drove to Michael’s and Hobby Lobby in the weeks leading up to the big event. Amazon Prime was my best friend and UPS was delivering things for the party on an almost daily basis.
I had a lot of fun and in the process I learned that I was craftier than I had given myself credit for. My parents had come to visit, and I’ll never forget my mom and I staying up until 3 am the night before the party making sure that we had everything [...]
When both my boys were little, I was searching Pinterest for homemade Christmas countdown ideas. I wanted a visual way to show a 2- and 4-year-old that Christmas was coming. I came across many ideas that I liked, but my favorite, by far, was the Christmas Book Countdown.
The idea is simple. You take 24 Christmas books and wrap them all up by December 1st. Then, each night, you unwrap one book (the kids take turns each night) and read it! As Christmas gets closer, the stack of books gets thinner. Soon, it’s Christmas Eve!
We love books, especially children’s books. I have read to the kids every night of their lives, so this tradition was easy to incorporate into our [...]
In August 2012 we made the big move from Minneapolis to the suburbs. Josh and I knew we wanted to start a family at some point and the home we had at the time was just not conducive for family life, with the master bedroom upstairs, away from the two small bedrooms on the first floor. I loved living in the city, so it took a lot of convincing from Josh to get me to consider a home in Chanhassen!
I really enjoyed decorating the rooms in our new home and spent a decent amount of time finding wall art that best fit my style without breaking the bank. I pretty much had everything figured out within a few months. That is, everything but my entryway hall. This hall/foyer begins at [...]
